We are currently looking for an ingenious Thermal Simulation Engineer for our electro-thermal team within the research & development group. The role will revolve around the thermal design and simulation of a variety of energy storage systems.

As a Thermal Simulation Engineer, your studies will be scaled from a fundamental cell level, up to a cluster of interconnected battery modules comprising a larger energy storage unit for industrial and residential applications. Additionally, the role will focus on developing test methods, designing and executing experiments, and creating electro-mechanical innovations to improve existing or develop new products that meet customer requirements and company high standards. This role will provide the right candidate with excellent growth potential within an environment of experts.

Key activities and responsibilities of this role include:

  • Model components of battery systems in 3D CAD tools and assemble them in space, as expected to be encountered in the final product
  • Thermally evaluate components and systems in FEM/CFD environment to ensure proper thermal behavior
  • Design cooling arrangements (natural air convection, forced air, or liquid cooling)
  • Investigate the closed-loop interaction between the electrical and thermal properties of the battery systems in steady-state and time-varying scenarios
  • Build optimization algorithms for the design of battery systems to achieve desired performance targets
  • Design, supervise and/or implement thermal tests in close collaboration with the Testing team of Sunlight
  • Clear and proper documentation of completed tasks
  • Collaborate in a team environment across multiple engineering disciplines

Job requirements

  • MSc. (Diploma) in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
  • At least 3 years of experience in relevant positions will be an asset
  • Thermal analysis of industrial systems
  • Air cooling and water cooling
  • 3D CAD modelling in SolidWorks or equivalent tools
  • Familiar with ANSYS Fluent / ANSYS Icepak / ABAQUS or COMSOL
  • MATLAB / Simulink / Python
  • Fluency both in Greek and English
