We are currently looking for an ingenious R&D Electrical Engineer for our electrical team within the research & development group. The role will revolve around the electrical design and peripherals of battery-based systems. As an R&D Electrical Engineer, you will be mainly involved in designing, sizing, simulating, and evaluating the proper electrical infrastructure for Lithium-based batteries and Energy Storage Systems (ESS). This will be performed on component, as well as on system level, to ensure that the designed electrical infrastructure meets the highest standards, from a performance and safety perspective. Furthermore, you will be performing studies on the electrical connectivity of battery modules and battery packs to associated systems, e.g. vehicles or ESS for residential, grid, or renewable applications. The identification and selection of necessary electrical components to support the company’s production line will be a constant priority. This role will provide the right candidate with excellent growth potential.

Key activities and responsibilities of this role include:

  • Designs of all electrical connections of battery systems, including wiring and cable/busbar sizing according to international standards
  • Designs of protection mechanisms necessary for the seamless and safe operation of the battery systems by proper choice and coordination of relays and fuse arrangements
  • Identification and selection of desired electrical components from international vendors
  • Uses CAD tools to design electromechanical arrangements
  • Understands IEC/UL standards and is able to translate them to a technical data package
  • Thermal investigation of components under different modes of electrical operation
  • Uses electrical simulation tools to evaluate the real-time interaction between the batteries and the systems they are connected to (vehicles, grid etc.)
  • Designs, controls, and implements electrical tests in close collaboration with the Testing team
  • Clear and proper documentation of completed tasks

Job requirements

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering (MSc)
  • At least 2 years of experience in electrical infrastructure design (preferably in Energy Storage Systems)
  • 3D CAD tools e.g. SolidWorks, CATIA
  • Design and implementation of battery energy storage systems
  • Electrical design for low voltage and grid applications
  • Understanding of IEEE/IEC/UL standards
  • Knowledge on AC/DC and DC/DC converters
  • Electrical simulation tools e.g. PSpice, PLECS, Simscape
  • Matlab/Simulink

Despite your experience and skills, you never stop learning, cultivating an out-of-the-box thinking, a growth and entrepreneurial mindset, embracing ownership and agility. You are impact-focused, proactive and open to change.
